Skywatching: Astronomy before Telescopes | |
This section highlights the discoveries that can be made with naked eye observing, interpreted in the context of the heliocentric solar system. The aim is to help students understand commonly observed phenomena like phases of the moon, and familiarize them with the regular motions of the Earth, Moon, and stars. The differing scales in section 1 can be brought in. The relative distances between Earth, solar system objects, and the distant stars affect their apparent motion in the sky.
