Tracking Solar Flares to Earth's Ionosphere
As with the CME activity, the goal of this activity is for students to understand the importance of our relationship with the Sun. Whereas CME's primarily affect Earth's magnetic field, solar flares primarily affect Earth's upper atmosphere. By going through the various steps, students will have the opportunity to practice with solar images and real time ionosphere data from NASA. At the Solar Flares web site start with the first page, then continue to each new tab by either clicking "next" at the bottom of the page, or the next tab at the top of the page. This will take you through the necessary background and links as you work towards the Solar Flare activity. |
These activities, suggested for students for World Space Week, are taken from these two teacher guides.
