Ties to Science Framework
LIGHT ENERGY (Grades 4-6):
- Light travels very rapidly in straight lines from its source and is reflected, refracted, or absorbed. (Systems
& Interactions)
- White light is a mixture of colors that can be separated into a spectrum by a prism. (Systems & Interactions,
Scale and Structure)
- Concave mirrors focus light by reflection; convex lenses focus light by refraction. (Systems
& Interactions)
- The spectrum of visible light colors is the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum of energy moving through
space that our eyes are able to detect. (Energy, Scale & Structure, Systems & Interactions)
LIGHT ENERGY (Grades 7-8):
Light can be described in terms of both the wave and particle theories, with light energy proportional to frequency
and inversely proportional to wavelength. (Scale & Structure)
