PRE-REQUISITES
SKILLS: Students should have the ability to use a Web browser,
plot points, and make graphs.
MATERIALS

Internet connected computer(s) with Java- enabled WWW browser
programs.
One computer for every two-three students is recommended.

Tripod, telescope or binoculars, cardboard, for
sunspot viewing activity (see: Sunspot
Viewing Instructions).
NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE
Computer Setup: This site is compatible with all
2.0+ browsers. Access to RealMedia clips requires a RealMedia
plug-in player (free). The site has a QuickTime movie, which
requires a plug-in player. The research activity requires a
JAVA-enabled browser, such as Netscape 3.X or better, Internet
Explorer 4.X or better. Both plug-ins and browsers can be obtained
free of charge through the site's help
page.
SITE NAVIGATION
Students proceed through the module by following printed directions and clicking on links provided. The
path through the site is linear, although students can easily access
previous material for review, or view the Glossary for vocabulary
definitions. All pages contain navigation buttons, a main menu, and
a variety of page features including text, images, graphics, or
audio-video multimedia clips. At the teacher's discretion,
students can be assigned subsections of the lesson according to
curricular needs. Students can navigate the lesson for
specific content and make presentations to classmates or
compare graphing results with peers.
