The HNX Education and Public Outreach (E/PO)
The HNX team, recognizing our country's need for improved mathematics, science. and technology education, plans a nation-wide partnership with science museums and centers. science educators. and mission scientists. Together we will develop, implement and coordinate an ambitious education and outreach effort. We will be guided by the goals and philosophy outlined in two key NASA documents: (a) Partners in Education (1995), and (b) Implementing the OSS Education and Public Outreach Strategy (1996). Our E/PO effort is also guided by and responsive to the National Science Education Standards (1996) and carries the theme "Cosmic Detectives" throughout the various formal and informal education projects. The E/PO plan is based on the UC Berkeley HESSI. STEREO/IMPACT. CHIPS and the GSFC ACE Education and Outreach models and is a diversified program that embodies best practices in E/PO and best strategies in reaching underserved populations. Furthermore, our E/PO program will continually respond to the latest technologies and most effective pedagogical methods emerging over the next decade.
