Images of supernovae remnants (SNRs) and heavy young
stars in stellar nurseries clearly show “bubble-like” features. Some of these
cavities are expanding at several hundreds of km/sec and are filled with HOT
X-ray and UV-emitting gas.
Our Galaxy is thought to be filled with a
honeycomb-like structure of expanding and interacting interstellar features
(“super bubbles”) that are the main driving force in the star formation
process
