The Cosmic Hot Interstellar Plasma Spectrometer uses extreme ultraviolet light to study the properties of a bubble of hot, diffuse gas surrouding the Sun and nearby stars. This region of the Galaxy is called the Local Bubble.

EUVE
The Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer was launched in 1992 and operated for 8.5 years before being turned off and allowed to reenter Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrate in 2002. EUVE observed over 1,000 celestial objects in a previously unexplored region of the electromagnetic spectrum. :: Visit the E/PO Site
