Classifying Galaxies
Click here for important galactic news!
The background loading here is a composite from the Hubble Deep Field image, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in December, 1995. The telescope was pointed at a part of the sky that normally appears empty, near the star Polaris. The telescope stared at the same point for a long time, gathering the very faint light of distant galaxies that nobody had ever seen before. Almost every object you see here is a galaxy, containing billions of stars!
