I have taught for 26 years in the San Francisco Unified School District, grades K - 7, including four years in Spanish bilingual. In the last few years, I have been given increasing opportunities to participate in exciting astronomy and science education projects, including NASA NEWEST, Ames, 1991, the LASE Project (Lasers in Secondary Education, San Jose State University, 1991), Project ARIES, Harvard, 1993, Project SPICA, summer, 1994 and the Astronomical Society of the Pacific's Project ASTRO during this last school year, which brought a working astronomer to my classroom for hands-on astronomy activities.
I have worked for City Science (University of California, San Francisco) and the San Francisco Education Fund as a teacher trainer and facilitator for several years. I've presented on astronomy and Elementary Optics at the local, state and national levels and am developing an Elementary Spectroscopy unit.
I was recently elected Intermediate Director of the California State Science Teachers' Association and will take office for a two year term in June, 1994. I also received one of the 1994- 95 American Association of University Women's Eleanor Roosevelt Fellowships for equity awareness workshops for third-fifth grade teachers.
