Participating Organizations

There are four main organizations participating in the RHESSI mission:  the University of California at Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory (UCB), NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC),  the Paul Scherrer Institute of Switzerland, and the Spectrum Astro Company.

1.  University of  California,  Berkeley
The principal scientific investigator for the RHESSI mission is Dr. Robert Lin, Director of the Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL).  SSL is responsible for managing and overseeing  the entire mission, including:

• Scientific goals
• Design, construction, and testing of the RHESSI spacecraft and its instruments
• Spacecraft control and data downlink from a Mission and Science Operation Center (MSOC) located at SSL
• Analysis, distribution, and archiving of the RHESSI science data

2.  Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC)  GSFC, located in Greenbelt, Maryland is one of NASA's main research centers, and is especially active in solar research.  Its responsibilities for the RHESSI mission are to:

• Conduct concept studies for the original RHESSI proposal to NASA
• Test the x-ray modulation grids for the RHESSI imager
• Run simulations to test the scientific instruments
• Provide hardware for the construction of the science instruments
• Develop software to display and analyze the RHESSI data
• Carry out data analysis and archive RHESSI data

3.  Paul Scherrer Institute, (PSI) a science and technology institute in Switzerland. PSI is responsible for: 

• Design and construction of the RHESSI imaging and data handling system
