Getting to SSL: By Car

From 80/580/880 (San Francisco, Richmond, Marin) - This route is marked on the map above:

1. Take University Avenue exit off 80/580.

2. Go straight on University Avenue 2 miles towards the hills (away from the water). The road dead ends at Oxford; take a left on Oxford Street.

3. At the second light (Hearst Ave.), turn right.

4. At the second light (Gayley Road), turn right.

5. At the first stop sign (Stadium Rim Way), turn left.

6. You'll curve around behind the Memorial Stadium. Make a left at the first stop sign, onto Centennial Drive.

7. Go 1 mile on Centennial Drive to the top of the hill. The road will curve around. You'll pass the Lawrence Hall of Science (on the left) & a series of parking lots (on the right).

8. After the parkings lots, there will be a driveway (or "Gauss Way") to your right flanked by trees. Turn right there. There is a small street sign for Gauss Way, and a sign for Space Sciences Laboratory, but they are both hard to see.

9. The Space Sciences Lab is at the top of that hill. The Center for Science Education is located in the new building, to the left as you drive up. During weekday business hours, a parking permit is required which can be obtained from the Center's staff. Parking permits are not necessary after hours, on weekends, or holidays.

From Concord, Walnut Creek area:

1. Take Hwy. 24 West (680 to 24 West).

2. Take Fish Ranch Road exit and turn right onto Fish Ranch Road.

3. Go uphill to Grizzly Peak Boulevard, turn right at the stop sign onto Grizzly Peak Blvd.

4. Go 3 miles to Centennial Drive, turn left onto Centennial Drive.

5. Turn left at the first driveway, or "Gauss Way". There is a small street sign for Gauss Way, and a sign for Space Sciences Laboratory, but they are both hard to see.

6. The Space Sciences Lab is at the top of that hill. The Center for Science Education is located in the new building, to the left as you drive up. From 13 (Warren Freeway) - from Hayward, San Leandro, Piedmont, Oakland:

1. Take Hwy. 13 towards Berkeley. It will change into Tunnel Road and then into Ashby Avenue. Continue straight on Ashby Avenue.

2. Turn right on College Avenue.

3. Turn right on Dwight Way.

4. Turn left at the first light, onto Prospect Street.

5. Continue on Prospect. You'll see a playing field on your right. At the stop sign, turn right onto Stadium Rim Way.

6. You'll curve around behind the Memorial Stadium. Make a left at the first stop sign, onto Centennial Drive.

From 880 North (Nimitz Freeway) - from Fremont, Alameda, San Jose:

1. Take 880 North to 980 North.

2. Take 980 North to Hwy. 24 (toward Walnut Creek).

3. Take the Claremont Avenue exit. Go left onto Claremont Avenue.

4. Continue on Claremont to College Avenue. Go left on College Avenue. Take College Avenue, through approximately 5 lights. Once you near the UC Campus, look for Channing Way.

5. Go right on Channing Way.

6. Go left at the first stop sign, onto Prospect Street.

7. Continue on Prospect. You'll see a playing field on your right. At the stop sign, go right onto Stadium Rim Way.

1. Take San Mateo Bridge (92) or Dunbarton Bridge (84) to East Bay.
2. Follow directions from 880 North above.

1. 101 to San Francisco, Hwy. 80E over Bay Bridge to University Avenue.
2. Follow directions from 880/580/80 above.
