The Seasons software from Riverside Scientific in Minneapolis, Minnesota is a very powerful modeling system that allows you to change the Earth’s orbit and the tilt of the Earth’s axis and then predict how these changes will affect the seasons. The program is available on a 30-day trial basis, beginning when the program is first used. We strongly encourage teachers to purchase the program as its value to this guide is significant, and it is helpful in other respects as well.

Students can see for themselves the effect of the tilt of the Earth’s axis on seasons. The program also shows how the amount of sunlight and temperature of different places on Earth affects the seasons.

Development of the Program
The Seasons software was developed by Riverside Scientific, Inc. Riverside has developed several earth science software programs (Seasons, Winds, Clouds) that promote hands-on, inquiry-based learning. The programs were originally developed for exhibit kiosks in science centers and have proven to be engaging exhibits. We include on the CD-ROM a time-trial version and encourage teachers to buy the complete product, which includes a teacher’s guide and student logbook. The software works is available in either a Mac or PC version and at the time of this writing was $60 for an individual copy.
