Casa De La Cultura Maya, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory are working in partnership to create bridges between the indigenous knowledge of the Maya and contemporary astronomy with inquiry based science learning opportunities for youth and families.
Upcoming Events
On Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 12pm to 6pm at Hartnell College in Salinas, CA, our FREE “Family Celebration of Maya Culture and Astronomy” event will provide the opportunity for people of all ages to experience the full richness of Maya astronomy and Mayan cultural roots. The event will include professional cultural dance performances, showings of the Tales of the Maya Skies planetarium show, presentations and talks on cultural astronomy, solar telescope viewing, fun educational workshops and family activities, engaging exhibits (including traditional Maya textiles and art) and so much more! Food (with an authentic flair) will also be available for purchase. The Hartnell Campus is located at 411 Central Avenue in Salinas, and the event will be centered around the planetarium.
