Earth

We share the wonder of our Universe by building bridges between scientists, educators, students, and the public. By placing science within its broadest cultural context, we make science discovery accessible to all.

Surfin' the Solar Wind (SSW)

SSW enlists and trains San Francisco high school-age teenagers to join NASA-funded scientists and educators and co-design solar-related STEM activities and multimedia, with the aim of making these activities popular with other teens. After concentrating mainly on the program’s “traveling activity booth,” the SSW team is now focused just as heavily on online engagement opportunities.

To start, we recently launched www.teensolarinvestigators.org Here teens will find a blog of our activities, an event locator for our booth, relevant links of all kinds, and some initial activities and multimedia interactives. Currently, the site feature gaining the most attention is our “Sun Slider.” Developed with the help of the SDO team, the Sun Slider allows users to choose and compare the latest SDO instrument images one on top of the other. But there’s a bit of a fun catch, in that the tool is an “Easter Egg” that has to be found first. With all the recent solar activity, now is a great time to hunt for the Sun Slider!
