John Bonnell - Thermal-Vac Test Description

Dr. John Bonnell explains how the test of the EFI boom will work. The Axial EFI boom is a coiled strip of metal (similar to a Chinese yo-yo) that springs out into a rigid tube once it is released. The actual electrode which senses the effect of the electric field in space is mounted at the end of the boom and will be positioned about ten feet from the THEMIS spacecraft when the boom is extended.
