How do you measure a wave?

The differences between types of light you'll be learning about are in the length of the light's waves or "wavelength."

Wavelength is the distance from peak to peak.  It is represented by the Greek letter lambda.

However, "wavelength" doesn't mean the entire length of the light wave, from the source to your eye.

The term wavelength means the distance from one peak of the wave to the next, or from one trough (low point) to the next. Scientists often use the Greek letter (symb) (lambda) to stand for wavelength.
