Graphing Stratospheric Ozone
Detailed Learning Objectives

Objectives relate to National Science Education Standards, and can be used as a tool for student assessment.

Graphing

    students should be able to:

  • interpret false-color TOMS images of total ozone pressure
  • Construct a graph of data from image points, with proper scale notations, e.g.
    • Pressure vs. time for a given latitude and longitude
    • Pressure vs. altitude at a given time
  • Define the Dobson Unit and describe its use

Ozone Chemistry

    students should be able to:

  • Describe and discuss one or more of the following:
    • Cyclic changes in the depth/density of the Earth's ozone  layer
    • The chemical interaction of the ozone layer with sunlight
    • Changes in the ozone layer due to human activities
